Caboose Makes it to Pocket Park

by Dawn Teer

As has been written about over the last several months, the Rotary Club of Stuttgart has been working on fixing up the corner of 2nd and Main Streets by developing another downtown pocket park.
Recently that dream came into fruition. Currently there are two train cars, one being a caboose, on a set of tracks on the back side of the park. The Stuttgart Beautification Committee worked to restore many of the plants and bushes that had been in the area. Now there are beautiful shrubs and flowers along the outside of the pocket park. Last week, the red caboose that they had been waiting on arrived.
After five eighteen wheelers, two dozers with double cranes on each side, five pickup trucks and 19 contract workers to help out, the caboose was attached to the other train car and placed on the tracks. It took approximately two hours to get it set in place. Thanks to a partnership with the Stuttgart School District, there will be astroturf in place for kids to play on and tables and benches for picnics.
Jason White, mural artist, who has done previous murals in downtown Stuttgart was on hand to begin with the mural for the pocket park. The train car already there is painted with Rotary’s logo.
