Dawn’s Delights
Well, I am back in the office, after a short staycation. Very conveniently, my grands babysitter ended up going to Girls’ State for the week so I had the grands most days. So much for the purge on my house…you know I am devastated (NOT). I wasn’t a total bum last week though, I did get some things out of the house and more stuff organized, and I spent the time with my grands and that’s always a win for me!
Attended the Arkansas Country Music Awards on Monday, June 1. We had two locals up for awards, Cam Shelton, for Best Acoustic Act and Anna Brinker for Inspirational Recording of the Year for her song, “Give it to Jesus”. Cam Shelton came away with the Best Acoustic Act. This isn’t Cam’s first win either. Cam won Best Young Artist back in 2018 (I believe). I was actually working in Heber Springs at the time and last minute got to attend the awards, which was the first time they had them. Although I was there to cover Jon Raney, a record producer from Drasco, I still took pics of Cam and did a story for the paper in Stuttgart.
I love going every year! The best surprise this year was when Garth Brooks walked on stage to give an award to a lifetime recipient Allen Reynolds. Apparently, according to Garth, Reynolds was a big help to him in his career. It was an awesome tribute to Reynolds and a treat for Arkansas. Unfortunately, Garth left as quickly as he came and no one was allowed to speak to him, he was shuttled out by his security team pretty fast. I was actually ten feet away from him but couldn’t talk with him or even get a photo…bummer.
Can’t wait til next year to see what the ACMA’s will surprise us with!
Until next time…
A healthy Arkansas County requires great community news.
