Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds Stymied By DeWitt Varsity Dragons

Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds couldn't keep up with DeWitt Varsity Dragons and fell 12-3 on Monday.

Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds opened the scoring in the first after MyKayla Hale doubled, scoring two runs.

Kimberly Hornbeck singled down the right field line, which helped DeWitt Varsity Dragons tie the game at two in the bottom of the first.

A ground out by Hale gave Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds the lead, 3-2, in the top of the third.

Tori Ross singled down the right field line, which helped DeWitt Varsity Dragons tie the game at three in the bottom of the third.

DeWitt Varsity Dragons jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Khloe Llyod doubled, scoring two runs, Harley Grammer doubled, scoring one run, and Gracey Lloyd singled, scoring one run.

DeWitt Varsity Dragons scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

Ross singled, scoring one run, Hornbeck doubled, scoring two runs, Emma Bazarow singled, scoring one run, and Bazarow scored after tagging up.

Hali Watkins led things off in the circle for Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds. The starting pitcher allowed nine hits and eight runs (six earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking four. Llyod opened the game for DeWitt Varsity Dragons. The hurler surrendered four hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out six and walking four.

Hale drove the middle of the lineup, leading Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Lily Griffin led Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds with two hits in four at bats.

DeWitt Varsity Dragons accumulated 11 hits in the game. Lloyd, Ross, Hornbeck, and Llyod each collected two hits for DeWitt Varsity Dragons. Hornbeck went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in. Grammer led DeWitt Varsity Dragons with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game.

Both teams were strong in the circle on Thursday, but Westside Varsity Warriors was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-2 victory over Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds. Hali Watkins started the game for Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds and recorded 18 outs.

Watkins stepped in the circle first for Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds. The hurler surrendered eight hits and three runs over six innings, striking out two and walking two. 

Lily Griffin went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds in hits. MyKayla Hale and E’Naija Wright each drove in one run for Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds. Stuttgart Varsity Ricebirds were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Griffin had the most chances in the field with seven.
