Strange Complaints
I've been thinking about Bill Shrum lately. Spring was one of his favorite times of years. It was when his flowers would bloom and "say hello" to him in his back yard.
One of the times he'd found himself in the hospital for a bit, my wife and I sent him some flowers, and Lord, you'd have thought we'd given him a plot full of gold. He was so happy and emphatically told me so when I would call daily to check on him.
Gladiolus were his favorite.
So of course, that’s what we wanted to send him only. It's not easy to find a florist in Little Rock that would deliver to a hospital room that also had Gladiolus in stock.
The effort was worth it, however judging by the amount of crying he did on the phone when he called us after he received them.
It didn’t take much to make Bill cry.
Anyways, I was just thinking of him and of how there are flowers blooming all around us waiting for us to take a look and say "hey there" in his place.
We never know how many Springs we are given.. so greet each one, hell, each flower, as a gift.
Until later..
A healthy Arkansas County requires great community news.
