Planning and Zoning Meets

by Dawn Teer

The Stuttgart Planning and Zoning Commission met on April 28 at City Hall, beginning with a public hearing related to Southside Baptist Church’s request to build a new church on 22nd St.
It is currently not in a zoned area, but is next to a R1 zone. The church had the signatures of the 14 residents next to where they plan to build, and letters from utilities. They were requesting a conditional permit, and after some discussion, they approved the motion to allow the church to move forward.
Moving into the regular meeting, the commission approved the last meeting minutes, and in old business they discussed the previous request by Adam Morris to close the alley at 333 S. Porter. Morris had all the requested documents that the commission had requested from him, including an agreement between he and the owner of the property at 209 S. Porter that he had no objection to granting Morris an easement. After discussion the commission voted to approve the alley closure.
In new business there was a letter from Danny and Debbie Story regarding their property at 1501/1505 S. Main St. The Story’s were wanting to find out what kind of building they were allowed to build on their property. They want to purchase a building to put on their to be a resale shop with both new and used items. After much discussion, they were told it had to have a concrete foundation and be 25 ft. from Main St. and the building could not take up more than 50% of the property.
With no more business to come before the commission, the meeting was adjourned.
