Dawn’s Delights
Was there a weekend? I mean it’s Monday morning and I am typing my column, seriously trying to remember if I had a weekend…Of course I did. I spent the weekend at Burns Park in Little Rock, watching my grandson play baseball. Saturday was a good day, the boys played well, fielded well and won both games. Sunday, however, they played the first team they beat, again. Our boys forgot how to play, how to bat and generally played like they didn’t want to be there. We cheered them on all we could, but it didn’t seem to matter. Isn’t that odd? It makes me realize that you can do everything right on one day and totally mess it up the next.
Life is kind of like that too, if you think about it. One day you can be bumping along, getting your work done and then…life happens. Do you get what I am talking about? It is that time of year where I seem to be burning the candle at both ends. That isn’t always a good thing. Every night last week, I had something going on and didn’t make it home before 8:30 p.m. I fear this week is going to be just the same, if not worse. For the next three weeks, I can assure you that I will be getting little sleep and will be acting like a crazy person (worse than usual). So if you see me out and about and I have a dazed look on my face, you will understand why.
To the graduates, good luck in all your endeavors! Whether you are going off to college, staying here to attend our two-year college, joining the work force or joining the armed forces (thank you for your service there). Your future is a blank state and no, you won’t have all the answers, you may not even know what you are planning for the future yet. Guess what? You really don’t have to. 18 years old is not the age where you know what you want, how to get it, and put a plan in action. I thought I knew it all at 18. Boy was I wrong! I still don’t know it all at 64. But I have learned what is important in life. Faith, Family ,and love. Those are what is important. Keep your eyes on those things and you can make it through anything.
At my age, you will acquire wisdom. Hopefully, it won’t take you that long. Some it will take longer. But get out there and live your best life. Be happy. Call your mom. After all, Sunday is Mother’s Day. What every mother I have ever known answers what do you want for Mother’s Day? What they may not say, however, is what they really want is a break. A nap. Motherhood is a 24/7/365 job with no time off and no pay. It is the hardest job you will ever have, without any training, whatsoever and you know kids just don’t come with a User’s Manual, and all we can do is the best we can. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you and may you get some peace and quiet AND A NAP on Mother’s Day.
Happy Mother’s Day to my peeps, Bethany and Laura, may you get everything you really want!
