Marshaun Bowers's Strong Eye Leads DeWitt Varsity Dragons Past McGehee Owls
Marshaun Bowers showed a strong eye at the plate on Monday, as Bowers walked three times while leading DeWitt Varsity Dragons to a 13-2 victory over McGehee Owls.
DeWitt Varsity Dragons got on the board in the first inning after Gunnar Grisham drew a walk, scoring one run.
In the top of the third, DeWitt Varsity Dragons broke up the tie when Grisham singled, scoring three runs. Then a ground out by Rae Fry followed to extend the lead to 5-1.
Kaden Pippinger earned the win for DeWitt Varsity Dragons. The righty surrendered two hits and one run over four and one-third innings, striking out 10 and walking three. Colton Rhodes stepped on the hill first for DeWitt Varsity Dragons. The right-handed pitcher allowed two hits and one run (zero earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking none.
Fry, Grisham, and Bowers each drove in three runs for DeWitt Varsity Dragons. Bowers paced DeWitt Varsity Dragons with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting 12 walks for the game. Bowers stole two bases. DeWitt Varsity Dragons ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game.
