Students see Relics from WWII
Students in Clay Dollar’s history class got to see some WWII relics up close. Beau Barnett is holding a silver fork from Hitler's personal dining room that was brought back by a U.S. soldier as a souvenir. Next Macie McClain is holding a German War Merit Cross (medal awarded to German soldiers that was very common). This particular one was dug from the tracks of a Sherman tank by the driver upon doing his daily inspection. It was no surprise to find this as in the heat of battle earlier in the day he had been forced to run over a German soldier that was about to fire on his tank with a panzerfaust (an anti-tank weapon). Last Ashlynn Crawford is holding a silver butter knife from the same silver set as mentioned before.
This visit was on April 8th to conclude the unit on WWII Arkansas History.
A healthy Arkansas County requires great community news.
